Tough runners plough through bogs and blazing FIRE Cheap Nike Air Max 2016 in annual Nike Air Max 2016 event
It claims to be the most difficult one day race in the entire world.
But that didn't stop thousands of people taking on the Tough Guy endurance event in Perton, Staffordshire, tackling barbed wire, bogs and even fire.
The race, which began in 1987 and has seen two people die while taking part, regularly attracts around 5,000 entrants but as much as a Nike Air Max 2016 Mens third of them are not expected to cross the finish line due to the extreme obstacles put before them.
It begins with a six mile cross country run to soften the racers up, before competitors have to make their way Nike Air Max 2016 Womens over a two mile assault course.
The obstacles begin simply enough with fences and ditches to cross, but the action is soon ramped up with 'the Sting in the Tail' hanging electrified cables.
There is a military theme throughout with obstacles names including the Colditz Walls three progressively higher barriers to climb over and the Battle of the Somme a challenge that combines fire, water and barbed wire.
Race marshals dressed as commandos make things even more difficult by firing blanks from tank guns and letting off smoke bombs and flares over runners' heads.
Organisers describe Tough Guy as 'a window of opportunity to test oneself, on every discipline in life, in one day', with racers coming from across the world.
Anyone is welcome to enter regardless of age and the event raises thousands of pounds for charities and good causes each year.
But entrants have to sign a 'death warrant' acknowledging the risks it brings, although medical help is found throughout the course with paramedics, nurses, two doctors and St John Ambulance on site. |
